Thyrolingual cysts are formed when a remnant of epithelial canalization connecting the thyroid gland to the foramen cecum of the tongue fills with mucus. This condition is rare and may cause upper airway obstruction requiring emergency surgical treatment in infants. 1 We herein report a case of an infant who underwent thyrolingual cystectomy under general anesthesia. The infant was a 3-month-old boy weighing 5.75 kg, who suffered from inspiratory stridor from an age of 2 months. He was admitted to our hospital on an emergency basis

bromide for plate fixation. During general anesthesia, ventilation was per formed using a facemask for children or infants, and nasointubation was performed using video laryngoscopy or fiberoptic bronchoscopy. The connected components of the RED system frame include a halo device anchored to the cranium, a vertical midline facial bar, and a horizontal bar pulled to the maxilla with transcutaneous extranasal wires or intraoral wires. This device can significantly interfere with ventilation in adults using a facemask and intubation during direct laryngoscopy

for difficult nasotracheal intubation. 6 As shown in Table 1, if nasal intubation with a direct visual laryngoscope had failed, we had planned to perform nasal intubation using a flexible bronchoscope placed within the nasal endotracheal tube (Seldinger technique). However, considerable skill is required to manipulate a pediatric fiberscope, and intubation time would likely be longer. 8 If prolonged apnea occurred, it could lead to hypoxia, especially in infants. Similarly, a Seldinger technique can be used with a bougie as a guide for the nasal endotracheal tube

cause methemoglobinemia when applied to infants as an ointment or a rectal suppository 2 , 3 and when used topically to the perineal area. 4 It has also been associated with methemoglobinemia after its use as a lubricant on endotracheal, bronchoscopic, and esophageal tubes. 5 , 6 The particular preparation of benzocaine used in this case contained 20% benzocaine (Hurricane). 3 Methemoglobinemia has also been observed after the use of other local anesthetics. Prilocaine has been implicated most frequently. 7 Cyanosis can develop after administration of a

Society of Thoracic Surgeons Congenital Heart Surgery Database (STS-CHS) were used for this study of 26,754 studies recorded between 2010 and 2015. Nasal intubation was used in 41% of operations in neonates, 38% in infants, 15% in school-aged children, and 2% in adolescents. Nasal intubation appeared protective for accidental extubation only in neonates ( p = .02). Although older children undergoing nasal intubation displayed an increased risk of infection, nasal intubation in neonates and infants did not appear to carry a similar risk. Nasal intubation in neonates and

This study hypothesized that lower neurodevelopmental

Mosaic trisomy 9 is a rare chromosomal abnormality that is associated with limited survival. 1 The first description of an infant with trisomy 9 mosaicism was published in 1973. The child presented with a bulbous nose, low-set ears, micrognathia, congenital heart defects, and skeletal abnormalities; the infant survived for 28 days. 2 Subsequent literature, including via the Tracking Rare Incidence Syndromes project, has provided similar descriptions of trisomy 9 mosaicism, as well as additional phenotypic characteristics and associated
