profession and thus, actively contribute to new knowledge in the field. This paper will look at the amount of research that DAs produce in the field of anesthesia and assess the impact of that research relative to other specialists in dentistry. The h-index was chosen as a means of comparing the impact of research by DAs versus that of other dental specialists. h-index The h-index was suggested by Jorge E. Hirsch, PhD, a physicist at the University of California, San Diego, as a tool for determining the relative quality of a physicist and is

medial cubital vein and an infusion of lactated Ringer's solution was started at 2 mL/kg/h. Subjects were kept in a supine position for 20 minutes. After cardiovascular parameters had achieved steady state (change in vital signs <10%), subjects were sedated with Dex at a loading dose of 6 mcg/kg/h (1 mcg/kg per 10 minutes) for 5 minutes followed by a continuous infusion dose of 0.2 mcg/kg/h for 25 minutes; the recovery process then was observed for 60 minutes after the Dex infusion was stopped. A pin prick test with a 27-gauge needle was performed in the gingival

The Patient State Index (PSI) is measured using the SedLine Sedation Monitor (SedLine; Masimo Corporation) proprietary equipment and represents a numerical value of anesthesia depth. However, no study has examined PSI values for moderate sedation. We conducted a case-series study to investigate PSI values during moderate intravenous (IV) sedation for dental treatment. This pilot study was approved by the ethics committee of Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Okayama University

the patient denied notifying her primary care doctor about this issue, she did consult with a general internist in our hospital who proceeded with a home sleep apnea test demonstrating a respiratory event index of 5.4 events/h and resulting in a diagnosis of mild sleep apnea. Her nocturnal sensory and motor symptoms that we felt were suggestive of RLS were diagnosed as dehydration-induced muscle pain or nocturnal cramps. However, after receiving her assessment from the initial general internist in our hospital, we proceeded with the planned surgery under the
