Included in the American Dental Association's (ADA's) 2007 Guidelines for the Use of Sedation and General Anesthesia by Dentists is an educational requirement for dentists giving moderate sedation, deep sedation, and general anesthesia to have current certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers and either Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or an appropriate dental sedation/anesthesia emergency management course.
